Dust blows over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Morocco and Western Sahara in this image of northern Africa and the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula (above). The dust doesn’t reach across to Europe.
Towards the center of the image, the Strait of Gibraltar can be observed, separating and providing passage between Spain and Morocco. Europe and Africa are separated by 7.7 nmi (14.3 km; 8.9 mi) of water at the strait’s narrowest point.
